The beginning of the New Year is the perfect time to assess the direction of your business and set new goals to accomplish. Maybe you have already accomplished the tasks that you set for yourself this past year and are ready to tackle new ones. Or maybe the goals that you set didn’t seem to have a part in growing your business after all and you need to reassess what direction your business is going. Whatever the case is now is the time to sit down and evaluate your business and start putting together a list of goals you want to accomplish.
Before you start setting new goals, you need to take a good long look at where your business is today. Ask yourself if you are still heading in the same direction as when you first started out on your entrepreneurial venture. Did you stay the course or did it start heading in a new direction? Has that new direction been working? Are you happy with where you are? Where do you see your business heading one year from now?
Once you answer these questions, you can start to get a clearer picture of the shape you want this business to take. With that picture, it is easier to start forming a plan of action to get you from where you are today to where you want to be later.
Sit down when you have time to focus on your plan and clear out any other distractions: people, pets, and social media. Write out a list of all the things you would like to accomplish with your company this year. From that list, choose your two or three top priority items.
With those two or three priorities in mind, start to create a timeline for each task. Break down what smaller tasks need to be achieved in order for that goal to be accomplished. Set dates for you to check in with your progress on completing tasks. Make these actual appointments in your planner like you would any meeting with a client.
Finally, have an end date. When do you want to have these top priority goals accomplished? Knowing your end date makes it easy for you to set up those checkpoints so you know if you are still on track or if you need to pick up the slack somewhere.
The start of the New Year is the right time to evaluate your business’ direction and to determine what new goals you want to accomplish this year in order to keep your business running on its path to success.
